Prior to the Levi Strauss patented trousers, the time period “blue jeans” had been long in use for numerous clothes (including trousers, overalls, and coats), constructed from blue-colored denim.

“Jean” also references a (historic) kind of sturdy cloth generally made with a cotton warp and wool weft (often known as “Virginia cloth”). Jean material can be entirely cotton as well, much like denim. Originally designed for miners, trendy denims had been popularized as casual put on by Marlon Brando and James Dean of their Fifties movies, particularly The Wild One and Rebel Without a Cause, resulting in the fabric turning into an emblem of riot among youngsters, particularly members of the greaser subculture. From the 1960s onwards, jeans became common amongst various youth subcultures and subsequently younger members of the overall population.
